The court heard that Moses Ssekandi, together with two accomplices still at large, allegedly hired John Kamya, a boda boda rider from Nakifuma town, under the guise of a normal passenger trip.

However, along the way, the group reportedly turned against him, attacking him with sharp objects and leaving him seriously injured before fleeing with his motorcycle.

John Kamya said, “The accused and his accomplices used deception to lure him before violently attacking him and stealing his motorcycle. Investigations are ongoing to apprehend the other suspects still on the run.”

Prosecution told court that cases of aggravated robbery remain a growing concern in the area, often involving coordinated groups that target unsuspecting boda boda riders.

Magistrate Peter Gukiina did not allow the accused to take plea on the capital offence of aggravated robbery and ordered that Moses Ssekandi be remanded in custody.

Owen Kayongo, who is separately facing a charge of housebreaking and is linked to the Kalagi shop breaking incident, was also remanded as inquiries continue.

The court adjourned the matter to May 29, 2026, when the suspects will reappear to answer to the charges against them.

Police authorities in Nakifuma said the crackdown on violent crime is ongoing across the area.

“We have intensified operations across Nakifuma and neighboring areas to dismantle criminal networks involved in violent robberies. We urge the public, especially boda boda riders, to remain vigilant and report any suspicious clients,” police said.

The injured rider is currently recovering as investigations continue and efforts intensify to apprehend the remaining suspects.
